1. Install Security Cameras. One of the tips that many of you have noticed to be missing was this. Installing security cameras can make a world of difference to a criminal. If they think that they will have their face or likeness captured on camera, they will generally move onto the next house and leave yours alone. Although you can spend thousands of dollars on a system of security cameras, there is really no need. Going to a video store with these cameras or even ordering them offline can be remarkably cheap and will almost always be more than worth it. Even if you cannot currently afford a camera or are waiting for one to arrive, then you may be able to fashion a convincing false one until you can get a real one. You never know, it might just work.
2. Get A House Sitter. I cannot tell you how much money I used to make as a teenager house sitting during the summer for families of friends that went on vacation. I was always happy to go, as it meant that I had a house to myself to relax and could normally use anything they had, like a pool or other fun device. While you naturally want to find someone reliable, most teenagers will be more than happy to take some time away from their parents and have a house to themselves. This is especially good if you have pets so that you don't need to put them in a kennel. Just be sure to ask a neighbor to keep an eye on the place as well.
