One of the biggest parts of being happy with where you're living is your relationship with your neighbors. Being part of a neighborhood isn't the way it used to be, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Everything changes over time and when it comes to being a good neighbor, that means that you need to do what you can to change with it. Gone are the days of party lines and even land lines in most cases, and in are the days of apps that connect you to those next door to you instead. With that said, however, there are still a few things that haven't changed across the decades. These are the things that you should be mindful of.

It doesn't take a lot to be a good neighbor. One of the easiest things to do to make sure that you and your neighbors will get along is simply keep your noise levels down. It is actually very simple to make sure that you aren't blasting loud music at all hours of the day and night, and although your neighbors may not thank you for it, they certainly would say something if you were doing it! Having music playing isn't a bad thing, and can in fact be a fun way to start a conversation with your neighbors if they have similar taste, but just be mindful of the volume and the hour.

Another way that you can be a good neighbor is to simply chat with those who live around you. You don't have to go door to door with a pie for everyone, but when you see someone on their porch or getting their mail, a simple wave can go a long way. It's always a good idea to get to know who lives around you, especially in an apartment building or complex. There are any number of reasons why you may need your neighbor's help, and it's far easier to get that if you're on good speaking terms with them. As long as you show a basic level of respect, things should work out just fine.

If you are getting ready to move and want to make sure that you're a good neighbor, you don't have to worry about being absolutely perfect. Just as long as you are mindful and don't do anything you wouldn't want your neighbors to do, you should be fine!
