Moving into a new neighborhood is always an exciting, if slightly nerve-wracking, time. When you see that moving truck pull away and know the place is yours, you probably have a few people wondering what you're like. It's only natural for your new neighbors to wonder what you're like or if you're going to be loud or if you have kids. I’m sure that most of us have had a wide range of experiences with neighbors, so it is only natural that the curiosity goes both ways. It is always a good idea to be careful when meeting new people for the first time, especially if you are new to the area yourself, but it's so important that you get to know the people that you're going to be living close to for any extended period of time.

For the most part, your neighbors are people that you will need to get along with at least a little. It is always a good idea to get to know your neighbors on a basic level, if nothing else. Knowing what your neighbors look like can help to protect everyone from things like suspicious activity from strangers. It’s far more likely that you will notice someone who might be causing trouble if you know who normally walks around your neighborhood. It can take a little while to get used to a new area, but we always suggest trying to be friendly with your neighbors and hopefully that will help make your move a little less stressful.

While we certainly aren't suggesting that you should throw a party when you move into a new neighborhood, it definitely doesn't hurt to try and talk to people when you see them out and about. Even if you aren't one to normally communicate much with those around you, first impressions are important and you never know when you may need something from the person living next door to you in the future.

Here at Talley, we always want everyone to get along. We know this isn’t always possible, but at least knowing your neighbors is an important thing if you are going to enjoy where you live. When it comes to moving into a new area, sometimes it is worth it to go out on a limb and make the first introduction. You never know, you may just find a new great friend by saying hi to the person who lives across the street!
